My name is Aisha Healy and I am in my third year of college studying International Development in UCC. I hope to further my studies after college and do a masters in a business degree. I am currently completing my placement in Cork Migrant Centre in Cork City.
The reason that I chose to apply to Cork Migrant Centre for my placement is because I found the work that they do and take part in extremely important for the community in Cork, and giving people who have recently come to Ireland a place where they can feel comfortable and safe and where they can develop their knowledge at the same time. I really enjoy the dedication to the work that everyone in CMC does, and how passionate they are while doing it. It is very refreshing to see people who are so happy to help others wherever they can.
So far within my placement I have learned what it is like to be a part of an environment that dedicates its time to helping migrant children, families, and communities to have access to services and advocating to those in need of help. My first impressions of Cork Migrant Centre were that it is a calm and inviting place that I believe is extremely comforting for everyone who walks in the door.
I am excited to continue with my placement here and look forward to all of the knowledge I will come into contact to as well as the memories I will make here!
